Lightweight, sustainable concrete walling solution
Conversion of existing buildings into student residences, apartments, entry level housing and hotels is on the increase, with more and more developers looking to re-use or re-purpose existing building stock in key locations. In many instances, the existing foundations require significant investment to cater for the load of traditional brick and mortar walls onto the existing infrastructure and, although lightweight walls such as drywall are popular in commercial developments, they lack the robustness in residential refurbishments. Our fit-for-purpose, lightweight walling solution weighs roughly 25-30% of conventional brick and mortar and delivers on thermal, acoustic, robustness, fire rating and green requirements.
Lightweight
The CemteQ lightweight eco block comprises a specially-designed composite of recycled polystyrene and plastic, cement and admixtures with an installed weight as low as 600-650kg/㎥. This represents a weight reduction of 70 – 75% when compared to traditional masonry materials, offering distinct design and engineering benefits. On building conversions, the use of traditional materials is often irrelevant due to the fact that the buildings were not designed to take the loads of traditional materials.
Fire-resistant
CemteQ lightweight eco blocks are non-flammable and all components are tested to withstand fire for 1-2 hours. If used in combination with our fire-resistant perlite plaster, the walling reaches an unparalleled level of fire-resistant sophistication.
Sound insulation
Due to the air trapped in the infill, the CemteQ walling solution offers comparable sound insulation and noise reduction to a traditional wall.
Reduced Waste
The wastage factor is significantly reduced due to the robustness of the blocks.
Reduced Transport costs
With weights 70-75% lower than brick, 3-4 times as much material can be transported to site for the same cost.
Thermal insulation and energy savings
The use of repurposed polystyrene in our eco blocks significantly reduces heat transfer through the walls and saves significantly on heating and cooling.
Low environmental impact
CemteQ’s lightweight walling solution has amongst the lowest carbon footprints of any construction system. The use of 100% recycled polystyrene reduces the waste that would otherwise go to landfills.
Simple construction
The CemteQ walling solution offers production rates as high as 5 x faster than conventional brick and block laying due to its size and ease of handling. Our special mortar provides good adhesion between the blocks with the strength and stability further enhanced by the use of our fibre mesh. Our bespoke, preblended plaster products ideally complement our lightweight blocks due to the fact that the blocks are straight and plumb and our plaster materials can be applied as thin as 7‑8mm. This reduces the cost of plastering significantly.
Due to the size of the CemteQ lightweight block, the build quality is far better and the walls should be plumb and straight. Programme timing and budgets are more predictable and construction times are reduced with a corresponding decrease in project management and financing costs.
