Lightweight Walling
Lightweight, Sustainable Walling Systems
Our lightweight concrete Q-blocks and panels offer an eco-friendly, cost-effective infill walling alternative to traditional clay and concrete bricks and maxi bricks. Recycled polystyrene, which would otherwise end up in landfills, is used as an aggregate replacement, coated, mixed with cement, perlite and additives to form insulating, fire and water-resistant, lightweight concrete blocks and panels. These offer the following benefits
Lightweight
densities as low as 25-30% of traditional bricks and blocks.
Fire-resistant
the recycled polystyrene is coated with a fire-retardant and, once combined with cement, a 140mm wall will withstand direct exposure to fire for 2 hours and a 100mm wall for 60 minutes.
Acoustic performance
equivalent to brick and mortar.
Quicker and easier
construction times are reduced with a corresponding decrease in labour, project management and financing costs. A standard brick laying team can lay at least 5 times more m2 than a team building with conventional brick and mortar.
Cost-effective
CemteQ infill walls cost approximately 10-20% more than brick and mortar before one considers factors such as transport costs, speed of construction and the reduction in plaster and in waste in the short term. In the long term, CemteQ also offers the benefit of reduced heating and cooling costs over the lifespan of the building.
Thermal/energy efficient
thermal insulation is nearly 6 times that of brick and 9 times that of concrete providing up to 30% reduction in heating and cooling costs.
Sustainable
86% recycled materials with 34% of the carbon footprint of clay brick and 51% of concrete.
Improved plaster efficiency and a better overall wall finish
33% saving in plaster due to the reduced thickness.
Reduced transport costs
2,5-3 times more m2 of material per load.
Contractor-friendly
standard masonry skills and simple tools ensure ease of use and workability. Walls are straight and chasing can be done simply with a hand-held angle grinder and blocks can be cut with a concrete saw.
Reduced waste
typically 1-5%.

The Lightweight Walling System
Q-blocks and Q-panels Can be supplied in customised thicknesses and densities for internal and external infill walls as well as for demising walls. Block Adhesive Our special mortar provides good adhesion between the blocks. Fibre Mesh The strength and stability is further enhanced by the use of our fibre mesh. Hoop Iron, Wall Ties and Lintels Standard hoop irons, wall ties and concrete lintels can be used Plaster Our bespoke, preblended plaster and skim products ideally complement our lightweight blocks due to the fact that the blocks are straight and plumb. Our plaster materials can be applied as thin as 5-8mm and our skim products as thin as 2mm. This reduces the cost of finishing significantly. Chasing and Services Services are easily chased into the Q-block using conventional methods Fixings</br> We will advise on off-the shelf fixings. In the case of heavy fixings, use chemical anchors or through-fixing.
